He was promoted to President in 2002 and CEO in 2008. He is actively involved in all aspects of the business, including the application/interpretation of industry reserves definitions and guidelines.

Many people ask me about our tagline "Because there is a difference." I believe, as Clarence and Fred before me, that what sets us apart is our people. Time and again I see our team rise to meet any challenge. Whether it's a quick look at an acquisition or a complex technical study conducted over several months, we can devote the right combination of expertise, resources, and judgment to get to the right answer. We consider it a point of pride that many of our clients keep us involved in multiple aspects of their business and call on us throughout the year for advice on reserves issues, to talk through their latest development plan, or maybe just get our opinion on a certain field or reservoir. We work hard to establish those relationships. Our clients know there is a difference in consulting firms. And those in the financial community know that a Netherland Sewell report means unquestionable quality and reliability.

Danny joined NSAI in 1976. In 1992, when the company decided to open a Houston office to be in the center of the oil and gas industry, he was tagged to manage that office. Danny was promoted to President in 2008. He continues to manage the ever-expanding list of clients from the Houston office while also providing guidance on the day-to-day operations of the company.

I've been in this business, through all its ups and downs, for over 34 years now. During this time, our firm has evolved from mainly providing proved reserves estimates domestically to providing full service evaluations of reserves and resources for the international oil and gas industry. I've seen huge changes in technology, in operating and economic environments, and new discoveries in remote areas of the world. It is critical for our clients to continue to find, develop, and produce both conventional and unconventional resources to help meet the energy needs of the world. I firmly believe that Netherland Sewell is the best-equipped consulting firm to help our clients solve the technological and economic challenges that face the industry today and tomorrow.

Our Founders

NSAI was built on the vision and integrity of Clarence Netherland and Fred Sewell. Over 45 years later, our commitment remains the same.

Clarence M. Netherland (1920-2007)

When Clarence decided to start his own petroleum consulting firm in 1961, he intended for it to be the top organization of its kind in the world. He handpicked each employee with the right combination of technical skills he needed, and instilled in them the belief that we are here to serve the needs of our clients and the financial community. Clarence had many sayings he repeated over the years. One of his favorites was "Methods are many, principles are few. Methods change often, but principles never do." Throughout his career spanning many decades in the oil and gas industry, he held firm to the principle that we would never compromise on integrity, and that we would always strive to provide the best product at a fair price while serving the needs of our clients and their financing institutions.

When Clarence decided, in 1969, that he needed some help with his growing consulting business, he turned to his friend Fred Sewell. He knew that Fred had a head for business, and that he embodied the spirit and ethics that Clarence valued. From a fledgling company with less than 6 employees, Fred stewarded the company's growth into the most respected worldwide upstream petroleum consulting organization in the world. Fred retired from NSAI at the beginning of 2008. He was instrumental in developing the firm's business model, the concept of teamwork and integration, and the "core values" that permeate the company today. His emphasis on reputation and respect served both our clients and our employees well.
